We not only treat dogs and cats, but also exotics. Pearland Pet Health Center can see and treat any exotic that can be called
a pet. We also have the capability to hospitalize and do surgery on most exotics. Dr. Manley May is currently our only
veterinarian that sees exotics.
Here is a list of the exotics we have seen in our practice:
- Bird (all kinds)
- Guinea Pig
- Sugar Glider
- Prairie dog
- Pot Bellied Pig
- Bearded Dragon
We recommend a yearly exam on all exotics. Yearly bloodwork is also recommended for some exotics, especially as they approach their
senior years. There are also some that have vaccinations as part of their recommended protocol but most do not get vaccines.
For birds that need routine grooming such as beak trims, nail grinding, and wing clipping we require one exam the first time we
see the bird. After that we will do any of these things as maintenance without requiring an exam. We can also clip nails
on exotics. Occaisonally some exotics need to be sedated for nail trims, but most can be done fairly easily, especially if they are
We also offer boarding for exotics. If you are going out of town, what better place to keep your exotic while you are away than an
animal clinic trained to care for exotics? Typically we need you to bring your cage or enclosure and food. When booking your
reservation it is best to check with us on what we will need to care for your pet. Our staff is comfortable handling all types of critters and
their often detailed, high maintenance needs, but we do not usually keep all types of cages or diets around that each different
pet may need.
